Gabriel Mourey: Fêtes foraines de Paris

With 30 colour lithographs by E. Grau Sala

Ex. No. XIII of XXVIII on Rives with b/w suite and 9 coloured original lithographs signed by the artist E.A., 250 copies in total.

Édition Droin-Labastie, Paris 1947 ‘A harlequin whose high, snoring sound mingles with the nasal banging or sluggishly slurps after the trail of obstinate drum rolls, a mishmash of tumbling melodies or whining, whistling or sentimental ditties that jump after each other without ever catching up’

The beginning of this work draws the reader into the heart of the Parisian funfair. A parade with shooting galleries, lotteries and mannequins. The wheels of chance, winning numbers or attractions such as the three-legged woman, etc. The crowd has fun.

About the artist: After studying at the École Estienne, François Brindeau worked for renowned designers such as Georges Leroux, Monique Mathieu and Jean de Gonet. He then trained as a graphic designer. Today, he is a teacher at the École Estienne and is himself a talented, inventive and curious cover artist who seeks out new design paths. As a self-confident personality with an ‘assertive’ character, he helps his students to find their identity. He sets high standards for them, as well as for himself.

He compares decorative binding to the function of luxury packaging used to present a product. ‘The technology must make creative designs possible!’
