About the artist:
Martin Jaegle completed his bookbinding apprenticeship in Zurich from 1947-50, followed by his master craftsman's examination in 1960. After holding various positions, Thorvald Henningsen ‘brought’ him into his studio in the centre of Zurich's Niederdorf district in 1952, where he remained until 1962. He also took courses in gilding with Th. Henningsen and Morf, calligraphy with H. Meier and W. Wälchli, colour theory with Emil Mehr and drawing with Frühauf, Bärtschi and Fischer. In 1956/57 he deepened and perfected his knowledge and skills in hand gilding with Raymond Mondange at the École Estienne in Paris.
