Aucassin and Nicolete

About the content:

Aucassin and Nicolete

This is an anonymous, fictional story from the Middle Ages, probably from the beginning of the 13th century.

Ex. No. 279 of 1,500 for ‘The Limited Editions Club, New York’ 1931 Aucassin, son of Count Garin of Beau-caire in southern France, falls in love with the Saracen Nicolete, a Muslim woman. At his father's behest, they are separated and experience different, sometimes very difficult fates. However, the same fate eventually brings them together again and they have a happy ending.

About the artist: Derek Hood was one of the UK's leading cover artists. With a penchant for iconic fiction and classic cult titles, he produced unique and sought-after books for the 21st century collector. His covers are inventive combinations of traditional techniques with ‘modern’ design. He used a well-assorted selection of fine leathers and papers. His award-winning covers were featured in Design Week, The Telegraph Magazine, The Times and The Spectator and were exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the House of Lords, the British Library and the Grolier Club in New York.
