Albert Samain: Aux Flancs du Vase

With 54 original colour etchings by Gaston La Touche and a watercolour signed by the artist

Ex. No. 68 of 100 of the special edition for members of the Société du Livre d'art was personalised for Monsieur Henri Delacour, Paris, 1906 Albert Samain (1858-1900) first published this poetic collection of 23 poems in 1898.

About the artists: The collaboration between René Victor Chambolle (1834-1898) and Hippolyte Duru (1803-1884) began in 1857 and the two talented bookbinders gained great recognition among bibliophiles. The collaboration did not last very long. From 1863, René Victor Chambolle continued to run the workshop alone or with his son, René Jr (1873-1915). Father Chambolle developed an inexpensive type of binding known as ‘faux dos fermé’.

After his father's death, the son continued to run the bookbindery under the renowned name Chambolle-Duru until his early death.
