About the content:

La Fontaine: Daphnis et Alcimadure

Beginning with a funeral oration of a fable by Paul Valéry, illustrated with 14 etchings by André-Éouard Marty.

Ex. No. 117 of 275 copies on Vélin d'Arches . Édition Xavier Havermans, Paris, 1926 Daphnis et Alcimadure is the 24th fable in the 12th book of La Fontaine's collection of fables. He borrowed the theme from Theocritus. The shepherd Daphnis is hopelessly in love with Alcimadure, but she has no interest in him or in love in general. For La Fontaine, the true goal of love is physical.
